London from the inside Monday 6th - Sunday 12th February 2017
On the world stage Britain is not really renowned for having the best national dishes. Here, we are all pretty fond of our pies, fry ups, meat with veg and gravy, fish and chips... but we have also recognised that the world is our culinary oyster and have fully embraced influences from other cultures to tempt and tantalise our tastebuds. There’s no place better than London to be able to experience the full array of international deliciousness.
WHEN THE MOON HITS YOUR EYE...
Thursday 9th February is National Pizza Day so really it would be rude not to. Not only that but the world’s best pizza restaurant has just opened in Stoke Newington. L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele from Naples (the capital of pizza) and of ‘Eat Pray Love’ fame, opened its doors last week. London is officially spoiled for sourdough choice now with the likes of Pizza Pilgrims, Franco Mancha and Homeslice already in town. Our advice this NPD - try a topping you’ve never had before, keep it simple and don’t forget the chilli oil.
THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS IN LONDON
We’ve tried more than a few between us here. After much debate over not-too-greasy-batter, the most succulent, flakey fish and crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside chips, here’s our top five fish and chips shops in London...
1. Baileys, Fulham
2. The Golden Chippy, Greenwich
3. Poppies Fish & Chips, near Spitalfields Market
4. Hook, Camden
5. Alexander’s Fish Bar, near Finsbury Square
LONDON COOKING CLASSES
Spend the evening doing something different, learn a new skill and get to take your baked goods home for tea.
- Yeast in the East - three hours of perfecting your sourdough, next class February 8th
- The Jamie Oliver Cookery School - loads of classes in Shepherd’s Bush from North Indian thalis to Mexican street food
- Sozai Cooking School - mini and master sushi classes near Aldgate
EYE ON… BROMLEY
There are 32 capsules on The Coca-Cola London Eye, representing the 32 London boroughs, so each week we explore a different London borough.
Bromley means ‘woodland clearing where broom (a type of shrub) grows’. If you find yourself Bromley way, we’d hate for you to end up hungry. Around the world in eight great Bromley restaurants…
