London from the inside Monday 31st July - Sunday 6th August 2017
Summer always gets us in the mood for love. Wedding season is in full swing, the weather is good (or as good as it gets!) for riverside walks and picnics in the park that turn into long evenings and nights out. It’s also a great time of year to meet new people in the city. With all this in mind, we’ve put together a list of the top twenty places to propose in London - from the classic to the slightly more unusual. Of course, these would make perfect date locations too.
In the top ten places in the world to propose and number one in the UK, we even offer private Proposal Capsules with Pommery Brut Royal Champagne and Hotel Chocolat Pink Champagne Truffles.
Kensington Palace Gardens
These intimate gardens include the beautiful Sunken Garden planted in 1908, ornamental ponds, fountains and Cradle Walk - secluded archways around the edge of the garden, perfect for private moments.
Speaker’s Corner
Arrange to meet your partner in Hyde Park and sneak a megaphone and box into your bag. Up you jump for this unforgettable proposal.
Columbia Road Flower Market
Sunday strolls don’t get much nicer than meandering through the flower market and popping into the boutique shops in Columbia Road. There’s plenty of quieter side alleys to pop the question, then it’s back to the market for the biggest bunch you can find.
On the river
Set sail down the Thames for one of the most romantic ways to propose - on the river. The London Eye River Cruise embarks from the pier next to the London Eye.
A picnic in the park
We’re spoilt for choice for beautiful parks in London. Pack a picnic, rug and some bubbles and head to one of your favourites. We love Brockwell Park, Dulwich Park, Primrose Hill, Bushy Park, Hampstead Heath.
Definitely one for the partner who would like a big, extravagant surprise in public; and for the proposer who’s very good at organising things.
SEA LIFE London
If you’ve seen the movie Closer or been to the Aquarium then you’ll appreciate the backdrop that sharks and marine life swimming across three floors can create. You can even have a diver to go down to hold up a surprise sign for you!
Clos Maggiore restaurant, Covent Garden
If this isn’t the most romantic restaurant in London then we don’t know where is. It has amazing French cuisine and an outstanding wine list. Request a table in the cherry-blossom adorned conservatory.
Crystal Grotto, Painshill
Taking your beau for a day out in Cobham is bound to throw them off the scent. But lead them to one of London’s biggest hidden gems - the 18th century Crystal Grotto in Painshill Park - and they will be awe struck by the dazzling stalactites, which can be followed up with a visit to the vineyard.
Little Venice
Lovely waterside cafes and bars are tucked away from the more touristy areas. Walk along the tranquil canals looking at the interesting boats and barges or catch a water taxi.
St Dunstan in the East
Nature has conquered back at this magical old church and garden between Tower Hill and Monument. It makes a stunning backdrop for photos too.
St Paul’s Cathedral
Murmur across the Whispering Gallery, sit on the steps outside and watch the world go by and then have dinner next door at the Paternoster Chophouse aka the real FIrst Dates restaurant.
The South Bank
Stroll after dark and take to the bridges for views of the city that will never fail to make you fall in love with it, and each other.
Choose a ring in Hatton Garden
Haven’t got a ring yet or know your significant other would like to choose their own? Take them to Hatton Garden and kill two birds with one stone.
Gordon’s Wine Bar
The oldest wine bar in London is next to Embankment tube, so it could also be a perfect stop-off before or after a walk along the South Bank. It has rickety candlelit tables in hidden cellar rooms. Of course it has a great wine list and there’s over twenty cheeses to choose from as the perfect complement.
On stage at the theatre
First there’s some negotiation to be done with the manager, and then there’s a sneaky trip to the toilet before the performance starts to get onto the stage… not to mention the actual question in front of everyone! This is not one for the faint hearted! The Globe has Shakespeare’s Summer of Love on at the moment - what could be more apt - though can you really sit through a few hours of Shakespeare after popping the question?
Hide amongst the wax figures at Madame Tussauds
Get a friend to take your loved one for a day out at Madame Tussauds and see how long you can stay down on one knee before you’re spotted!
A treasure hunt around the city
Can’t decide on one location and want to make your partner work a bit… plan a treasure hunt. Just don’t make it too cryptic or you might be waiting a long time!
Any place that’s special to you
Maybe your eyes met across the cheeses at Forest Hill Sainsbury’s, or your first date ended in the pouring rain in Trafalgar Square… think back to your most memorable times together and make more memories.
