Eye on London - You need to get out more

Pigs in blankets for breakfast? Still in your pyjamas and staring at your iPad? You probably need to get out of the house! If you have this week off, don’t let your precious leisure time disappear into oblivion - make a plan, get out and feel like you’ve done something. Go for a walk around a part of town you don’t know, spend some of that Christmas money sales shopping or book panto tickets to continue the Christmas cheer.

If you still haven’t decided what to do for New Year’s Eve, watch London’s amazing fireworks live in 360 degrees on the BBC and save yourself for New Year’s Day. If the head isn’t too heavy on New Year’s Day, get 2017 off to a great start by getting into town and checking out one of these.

HANGOVER CURES

If you are likely to get a bit carried away on the 31st, be prepared by getting some ingredients in to start the morning repair job on your body.

Super Juice - 150g broccoli, 2 apples, 150g spinach, ice

Banana Shake - 1 banana, juice of 1 orange, 1 teaspoon honey, 300ml milk, pinch of cinammon, ice

Bloody Mary - 50ml vodka (preferably infused with fresh horseradish), 300ml tomato juice, 1 teaspoon cream sherry, tabasco and Worcestershire sauce to taste, lemon wedge, stick of celery, ice

The Full English - bacon, sausage, tomato, mushrooms, fried bread or toast, eggs, hash brown, black pudding, baked beans

EYE ON… NEWHAM

There are 32 capsules on The Coca-Cola London Eye, representing the 32 London boroughs, so each week we explore a different London borough.

Newham is in East London and was formed from the Essex county boroughs of East Ham and West Ham. The ExCel, London City Airport and Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford are all in the borough.

It contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium (where West Ham now play) and the Olympics have clearly rubbed off on this sporty borough. It hosts the annual Newham Cricket Festival and is home to the East London All-Stars basketball team. Beckton host a free timed 5k weekly ‘parkrun’ at 9am on Saturdays which is a great way to get back into fitness or work on your PBs - see the parkrun website for more details or to find your local parkrun and don’t forget your barcode!

Star Wars fever hit Britain as thousands of people flocked to the cinema to watch the movie that had been released in the US seven months earlier. George Lucas had feared the low-budget film would be a flop but it took over £294 million worldwide (the equivalent of nearly a £billion these days.)
