Inspiring perspectives of London Monday 21st - Sunday 27th May 2018

Are there two better things to do when you’re exploring a city or when you have a free day, than to walk around and devour delicious food on the way? To paraphrase the John Muir quote, “In every walk in London one receives far more than he seeks.” And this couldn’t be truer than when you take yourself on a street food walking tour of the city. What’s more, the food gives you energy for more walking, and the walking burns calories so you can eat more food. Win win!

STREET FOOD WALKING TOUR OF LONDON

In this one and a half hour (four and a half mile) self-guided walking tour you’ll take in six of London’s best street food markets and some of London’s best sights. It ends at the Southbank Centre Food Market, right next to the Coca-Cola London Eye, so perfect if you want to end your walk by seeing the rest of London’s greatest landmarks from a bird’s eye view.

Start at… Broadway Market

What’s there? Broadway Market is renowned for its gluten-free goodies and amazing coffee making it's the perfect stop for breakfast.

We recommend… For coffee and breakfast made with locally sourced ingredients head to Climpson & Sons Cafe. Or you can try an ethically sourced espresso from Merito Coffee and pick up a gluten-free cake from Eat ‘N’ Mess.

Second stop… Brick Lane Market

What’s there? The area that was once home to Jack the Ripper (and you can still visit the Ten Bells pub associated with two of his victims), the area now attracts a diverse and arty crowd. Work up an appetite by taking a look around the galleries shops like Tatty Devine and Beyond retro and then sample the street food.

We recommend… Brick Lane Beigel Bake was Britain’s first bagel bakery and bakes over 7,000 bagels and is open 24-hours a day. Try their famous salt beef, gherkin and mustard or smoked salmon and cream cheese in a rainbow bagel. Brick Lane’s full market is on a Sunday but shops and food traders are open all week.

Third stop… KERB Gherkin, St Mary’s Axe

What’s there? Head for one of London’s weirdest shaped structures on a Thursday for a sumptuous lunch. We recommend getting there as close to midday as you can to miss the lunchtime rush from the Square Mile workers.

We recommend… Meat lovers can grab a juicy patty from Italian burger joint Baggio Burger or for a lighter option try a grilled halloumi or aubergine salad box from Cyprus Kitchen.

Forth stop… Flat Iron Square

What’s there? There’s food, there’s drink, there’s gigs, there’s takeovers, there’s even a vintage market - check the website for what’s on when you’re going. Most food traders are open on most days.

We recommend… Go to Ekachai to try Asian dim sum and small plates or Where The Pancakes Are for buttermilk pancakes - you can grab drinks here too or at The Bar.

Fifth stop… Borough Market

What’s there? Probably London’s most famous market for fresh produce and street food.

We recommend… If you’re in need of another caffeine hit get the best coffee from Monmouth Coffee (or grab some beans to take home). Eat raclette at Kappacasein or sit outside Brindisa Tapas and watch the world go by.

End at… Southbank Centre Food Market

What’s there? Nestled behind the Southbank Centre, near Waterloo Station and the London Eye, this amazing food market is open Friday-Sunday and bank holiday Mondays.

We recommend… End the day with a super fresh juice from the Elephant Juice Bar and an ice cream from Il Gelato if you can manage it.
