Female stars take to the sky to mark International Day of the Girl

The day will start with speed-mentoring on the London Eye for 190 schoolgirls from London and beyond with 190 successful and inspiring women mentors from across a wide range of professions and industries including engineering, sport, film, media, politics, fashion and campaigning.

The schoolgirls, aged 10-18 and from 30 schools across London and the UK, have been invited by Southbank Centre to be mentored on the London Eye and attend a day of workshops, discussions and performances at Southbank Centre on the theme of positive communication and speaking out. The girls include those from public schools and state schools and those from girls schools and mixed schools. Each schoolgirl will be matched at random with three different mentors in her capsule and will have three 15-minute mentoring sessions.

The rest of the day’s activities for the schoolgirls will include a live video link up discussion with schoolgirls in India who are also marking International Day of the Girl, a feminist slogan t-shirt printing workshop and a performance by female beatboxing duo Bellatrix and Amy True.
The day will close with the launch of a new global campaign: The Girl Generation: Together to End FGM, supported by the UK’s Department for International Development.
