The second capsule on the London Eye will now be known as the Coronation Capsule after a Champagne soaked ceremony on Sunday morning. A permanent plaque was unveiled in front of a Queen Elizabeth II lookalike and other famous Liz look-a-likes.
For one day only, Jubilee Gardens on the Southbank was renamed the Coronation Gardens in honour of the momentous day, and guests flocked to enjoy a picnic while Brassroots played hits from the last 60 years to add to the celebratory atmosphere.
In the 60 years since the Queen came to the throne, the country has seen many changes and none more than to the skyline of London. The London Eye has become an integral part of this iconic view since it was opened in March 2000, this is the first time that a capsule has been named and it will feature a permanent plaque for visitors to see.
Leah Larkin, spokesperson for the EDF Energy London Eye said, ‘The London Eye is a big part of the recent history of this country and we wanted to honour the Queen in our own way. The Coronation Capsule will be permanent fixture on the London Eye so guests will be able to see the legacy of our celebrations for years to come. It was great fun on Coronation Gardens with live music and lots of happy families enjoying the revelry.”
