Monday 22nd July 2024 Britain’s most decorated Olympic couple, Dame Laura and Sir Jason Kenny, stand atop the lastminute.com London Eye to wish all British athletes a wheelie good luck in images released today.

With 12 Olympic golds between them, the power couple stood high above the London skyline, literally flying the flag for Britain, ahead of the world’s biggest sporting event that kicks off this week in Paris.

The most successful British female Olympian and most decorated British Olympian ever, stood 135m above the capital delivering an inspiring message of support and encouragement to their fellow athletes, ahead of leaving for Paris themselves.

Dame Laura Kenny, the UK’s most decorated female Olympian, commented, “It was great to be able to mark the next stage of this incredible summer of sport we are having, by giving our support to all the British athletes travelling out to Paris from the top of one of the most iconic landmarks in the UK, and what a way to get the adrenaline pumping!”

Sir Jason Kenny, the UK’s most decorated Olympian added “Laura and I know all too well the hard work and dedication the British athletes have had to put in to get where they are, and we also know how important it is knowing you have a nation of people willing you to win. It was an honour for us to be part of this show of support - it was just as high as it seems!”

Steve Blackburn, Senior General Manager at the lastminute.com London Eye, said: “Who better to wish our incredible British athletes the very best of luck this summer than Britain’s most decorated Olympic couple, the Kenny’s! As our athletes prepare to compete in all the different Parisian sporting events over the coming weeks, we hope this serves as a reminder that the UK public are 100% behind them, and that we know they’ll make us all proud on the world stage.

“Between them the Kenny’s have faced down years of gruelling training and adrenaline fuelled competitions producing 12 gold medals – I’m sure compared to that standing atop the London Eye at 135m felt easy.”!”

A world first, this daring feat marks the first time two people have stood atop the Eye at the same time ever and makes the Kennys the 10th and 11th people to undertake the stunt. Fellow sporting stars to also hold the achievement include Sir Mo Farah and Sir Geoff Hurst.
