THE TOP TEN THINGS TO DO IN OCTOBER
1. Halloween on the South Bank
If it’s more fun than scares that you and the kids are after this Halloween and half term then the Coca-Cola London Eye, Shreks! Adventure or SEA LIFE London will make the perfect autumn day out. Or for full on fright - head to the home of Halloween - the London Dungeon and ride the Death Express. Save big when you buy tickets for two or more attractions (all of the above and also includes Madame Tussauds) with a London Big Ticket.
2. Start Christmas shopping
If you love Christmas, what better way to elongate it than starting to tick a few presents off the list, and if you hate it, all the more reason to get it done before the shops go mad. Get inspired by going to places you might not normally shop at like the big train stations (St Pancras, London Bridge, Waterloo), Carnaby Street or the Southbank.
3. Oktoberfest
If you can’t make it to Germany this year, get the full Bavarian experience in London. Steins and sausages are available in loads of pubs and places across London including Camden, Notting Hill, Brixton and Canary Wharf.
4. Swim outdoors… in a heated pool
Re-opening after refurb and repairs ready for October is an Olympic sized, 50-metre outdoor heated swimming pool open all year round in London Fields West Side, Hackney. It’s complete with café, sundeck and has lane swimming and lessons available.
5. Rachel Whiteread at Tate Britain
The tate Britain are celebrating over 25 years of Rachel Whiteread’s internationally acclaimed sculpture. She was the first woman to win the Turner Prize in 1993 and the exhibition will show a mixture of her most famous pieces, unseen pieces and her new sculpture ‘Chicken Shed’. Open until January 2018.
6. Cocktails Ahoy!
All aboard the Alfred Le Roy canal boat for Cocktails Ahoy! A booze filled cruise down the River Lea from Hackney complete with upbeat tunes and artisan food.
7. Beauty and the Feast
The Vaults have done it again and with a dress code that is “Regal French fashion, done with passion. Old school ruffs with neon tufts. Velvet and tails and killer nails.”... need we say more! They’ll be a feast fit for a beast, a fairy tale show descending into chaos and DJs until late.
8. Wear your whiskers for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home
The nation will turn fur-bulous on 27th October 2017 to wear their whiskers to raise money for BDCH. If you fancy getting involved, find all the info here.
9. London Literature Festival
The London Literature Festival returns to the Southbank Centre for special extended dates in 2017. From 13th October - 1st November the festival will host Hillary Clinton, Tom Hanks, Philip Pullman and a live reading of Nelson Mandela’s memoirs.
Now in it’s fourth year, the UK’s only dedicated agave festival returns to the Truman Brewery on 7th - 8th October.
LET THE CELEBRATIONS BE-GIN IN NOTTING HILL
